RECALLING HAWAII

A Multimedia Chronicle of Oli, Mele and Hula

Kauai, Hawaii,
Saturday, May 28, 2011, 7:00pm – 9:00pm

This wonderful program leads you through the building of a bridge between the past accomplishments and leadership of Hawaii’s Alii (Royalty), with their legacy brought forward into modern-day Hawaii.

“In the beginning there were no canoes or people in canoes…” Out of the darkness / Po creates life. Hawaiians describe the geologic evolution as interplay between the goddess Pele represented by fire and lava, and the god Kane, embodied in the many forms of water.

”Recalling Hawaii” was presented in Germany and Switzerland in June 2010 under the creative direction of Roselle Keliihonipua Bailey.

Aloha Mixed Plate, simply delicious

Aloha Mixed Plate, Old Lahaina Luau

Aloha Mixed Plate – tasty dishes from the varied ethnic groups that call Hawai‘i home…

“Located on Front Street this laid back restaurant provides a variety of dishes that reflect the different ethnic groups of Hawaii.  From Teriyaki Chicken to Adobe Ribs and Kula Pork all served with “Two scoops rice” and “one scoop macaroni salad”   The rice is an important part of the meal because it provides the “backdrop” for the distinctive flavors of the main courses which, local style, tend toward the savory. Macaroni salad also presents a counterpoint to the main courses while providing a small portion of vegetables such as finely chopped carrots and small diced celery – just the way the Locals like it.  Aloha Mixed Plate is owned by the partnership who owns and runs the popular “Old Lahaina Luau.”
